The Spiritual Heritage Of Bharath

Life without culture is like a temple without God. Russia and the USA are egoistic because none can excel them in science and technology. In Vedic times, Bharath had all the powerful machineries and techniques we find today. Veda is the foundation for spiritual life. Foreigners, like the German Kribt, investigated the Atharvana Veda and conducted many experiments. Vishwamitra discovered the Gayatri mantra and other mighty weapons from the Veda.

Bharath's culture could resist and proceed in spite of financial and economical difficulties. The country suffers today because it does not pay heed to Chanakya's words. The Artha Shastra depends on the search for God. How can you search for God, if He is in you and is all pervasive? Worship, meditation, and penance are just to confer stability of mind. Searching for God implies removing attachment, hatred and ego. Just as ash covers the fire that produced it; just as clouds come from sunlight and cover the sun; just as moss from well water covers the water; and just as the cataract comes from the eye and covers the eye, so too Divinity is hidden by attachment, hatred and ego. If you remove the cover, you can see the underlying source. Sanskrit was known to all in the olden days but was neglected with the passage of time.

Modern education is like the camera which shows only the outside. Spiritual education is the X-ray which shows us the internal structure. Today's education is bereft of morality, righteousness and spirituality.

A mother is working upstairs. If she hears the child crying, she will leave everything and attend to him. She is not induced by the tune or rhythm of the wailing. So too, if man cries for God, He will descend immediately. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said that if you cry for God the way you cry for family, job and position then you can see God.

Just as one searches for his glasses which are on one's own nose, man searches for God who is within. In every object and individual there is God. Without air, you cannot live. Though you cannot see air, do you deny its existence? So too with God. Without faith, how can you know God? The secret is to have faith in yourself and faith in God. We should search with Love. If you do without selfishness and with broad feelings, you are sure to succeed.

Today's scientists are not even one thousandth of Hiranyakashyapu. He could control the five elements, reach the moon and try to change the direction of the stars. In spite of this, Prahalada said, "Without sense control, all this is useless. My teachers have taught me the principles of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. The secret of all objects is AUM NAMOH NARAYANA". Aum is Pranava, the primal sound. The eight letters Ah, Ka, Sha, Kha, Ka, Pa, Ya, Sa came from this sound and form the basis for all words. All English words are formed from the 26 letters of the alphabet. The four strings of a violin can produce an infinite number of songs. So too, the Vedas were produced from these 8 letters.

The first Veda is Rig and it contains all mantras; mantras to be heard and practiced. That is why "The proper study of mankind is man"; and man should have unity of thought word and deed. The power of the mantra is mighty.

In respect of God, if you develop pure Love, that is enough. In science, do research with Love; it is not possible to do research without love. Question who is doing the research, how and why. The only needed research is "Am I good or bad?". The Atma gives the answer. These good feelings allowed Vishwamitra and Vashista to succeed in their research. Vashista means Va + Shista i.e. one who follows the system or discipline. Everything follows a system. A magnet has the power of attraction. The power of attraction is God and is present in all. In God there is hundred percent attraction, so He attracts the whole world. Once we are in the company of a pure magnet, like an iron piece, we too become magnetized. The knower of Brahman becomes Brahman. This is true research.

You do not need spiritual pursuits to attain Divinity. Develop feelings of love. Yesterday, many remarked it was Adrushta that Swami was speaking to us. They said Adrushta meant good luck. Adrushta is A + Drushta and means Not + Seen with the eye. The one not seen by the eyes is Divinity. You get this Adrushta only through Love. This should be selfless Love and not worldly love. Divine love is heart to heart and present all the time. Japam and meditation give stability of mind but they don't confer Divinity.

If you put a hook in water, you will never catch a fish. If you bait the hook with an earthworm, you can catch fish. In the world which is the well, lower the thread of love and you can catch the fish of Divinity.

Atharvana Veda is the basis of all modern science. 1+1=2 is Bharath's invention. In the worldly sense, you say 3-1=2. In the spiritual sense, 3-1=1. Consider yourself, a mirror and your reflection. If you remove the mirror, only you are left. Nature is the mirror; individual is the reflection and God is you. If you forget Nature, you become God.

In the daytime, you see the world and its miseries. When you meditate and are in the blissful state, you forget the world. So there is bliss with the combination of Sat (Existence) and Chit (Awareness). Sat is changeless just as sugar's sweetness does not vary across the different sweets like Mysore pak, rice pudding, tea or coffee. Chit is like water. When sugar and water are mixed, the mixture is neither sugar nor water but syrup.

If we should picturize Divinity within ourselves, our body becomes sacred. To maintain the body's sanctity, chant the name of God. To make the mind sacred, meditate. Just as you need both hands to clap, you need to meditate and chant God's name to get the benefits. While taking up spiritual practices, you should have strong faith and intense love.
