1. Dasara is a ten day festival that begins with the first day of the month of Aashvayuja in the Lunar calendar. The first nine nights, Devi Navaraatri, are dedicated to the maternal Shakti aspect of the Divine. The tenth day is Vijaya Dashami, commemorating the day that Rama achieved victory over Ravana. 1. On January 14, 2002 we celebrate Sankraanthi, which is a festival that celebrates the glory of the Sun God. This day marks the entry of the sun into Uttarayana, or the zodiac house of Capricorn. Special sacredness is attached to this movement of the sun. To mark the occasion, excerpts from Bhagavan Baba's Discourses on the importance of Sankraanthi are presented.
